Serengeti Safari FAQs — Planning Your Visit
Migration timing, best season, what to expect on game drives, balloon safaris, and booking details.
The Great Migration is a year-round event that follows a roughly circular route through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. From our camp in the Central Serengeti, the best migration viewing is typically from April to June when the columns pass through on their northward march, and again in October to November on the return southward. The famous river crossings at the Mara and Grumeti rivers occur from July to September. The calving season on the southern plains runs from late January to March. Our guides monitor herd movements daily and will position you for the best possible encounters.
Land of Nature Camp is located in the Central Serengeti, near the Seronera Valley. This area is widely regarded as the best location for year-round game viewing in the entire Serengeti ecosystem because it sits at the crossroads of the migration route and supports high densities of resident predators including lion, leopard, and cheetah. The camp is approximately a 20-minute drive from Seronera Airstrip, which receives daily scheduled flights from Arusha.
There are two ways to reach us. The most popular option is a light aircraft flight from Arusha to Seronera Airstrip, which takes approximately one hour and offers spectacular aerial views of the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti plains. We arrange a game-drive transfer from the airstrip to camp (about 20 minutes). Alternatively, a scenic road transfer from Arusha takes approximately seven to eight hours via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area — a journey that is itself a highlight, passing through the Great Rift Valley escarpment and Maasai steppe. We handle all logistics once you confirm your booking.
The Central Serengeti is one of the few places in Africa where all Big Five species — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros — can be seen in a single day. The Seronera Valley is particularly famous for its leopard population, with known individuals often spotted in favourite fig trees and rocky outcrops. Lion prides are commonly seen, along with cheetah, spotted hyena, African wild dog (in some seasons), hippo, crocodile, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, topi, eland, and Thomson's gazelle. Over 500 bird species have been recorded in the Serengeti.
Our camp provides spacious walk-in safari tents on raised wooden platforms, each with en-suite bathrooms featuring flush toilets and hot showers. Solar-powered lighting and device charging points are available in every tent. The communal area includes an open-air dining space, a lounge with a small library of wildlife reference books, and a campfire circle where guests gather after dinner. We offer full-board cuisine blending Tanzanian and international dishes, a limited bar with wines, beers, and spirits, and laundry service. Wi-Fi is not available — this is a digital detox in the truest sense.
Yes. We offer guided walking safaris in the Central Serengeti, accompanied by an armed TANAPA ranger and one of our senior naturalist guides. Walks typically last two to three hours and cover four to six kilometres. On foot, you experience the bush in a completely different way — learning to read animal tracks, identify bird calls, and appreciate the smaller wonders of the Serengeti ecosystem that the vehicle passes by. Walking safaris are available for guests aged 16 and above and are subject to conditions on the ground.
We welcome families with children of all ages. Our Family Safari Tents provide a separate sleeping area for children, and our kitchen team offers child-friendly meal options at every sitting. Game drives can be adapted for younger attention spans, and our guides are skilled at engaging children with the wonders of the bush — from tracking animal footprints to identifying colourful birds. Children under 5 may have restrictions on certain activities (such as walking safaris) for safety reasons. We recommend the Serengeti for children aged 6 and above for the best experience.
Our rates vary by season and room type. High season (July to October, during peak migration) rates start from approximately $380 per person per night sharing. Green season (November to May) rates are lower, starting from approximately $280 per person per night sharing. All rates are fully inclusive of accommodation, meals, game drives, park fees, and non-alcoholic beverages. Single supplements apply. We also offer special packages including our Early Bird Safari discount and Honeymoon in the Serengeti package. Contact our reservations team for a personalised quote.
Pack neutral-coloured clothing in khaki, olive, tan, or brown — avoid bright colours and white which can disturb wildlife. Layers are essential, as early mornings in the Serengeti can be surprisingly cool (especially June to August) while midday is warm. A fleece or light jacket, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and SPF 50 sunscreen are must-haves. Bring binoculars (even a basic pair transforms the experience), a camera with at least a 200mm zoom lens, extra memory cards and batteries, insect repellent with DEET, and comfortable closed-toe shoes for walking safaris. Luggage should be in soft-sided bags, as rigid suitcases do not fit in light aircraft holds.
Every month in the Serengeti offers something special, but the most popular period is July to October, when the Great Migration passes through and predator activity is at its peak. January to March is excellent for the calving season on the southern plains, with high predator density and dramatic skies. June is a wonderful shoulder month with excellent weather, fewer visitors, and good migration viewing in the Central Serengeti. November and April are the short and long rains respectively — visitor numbers drop, rates are lower, and the Serengeti transforms into a lush green landscape with outstanding birding opportunities.
